Description
In the 1920s, there was a national campaign in Somalia to make a standard written form for the Somali language (which had many ways of writing it but no standard accepted form). Osman Yusuf Kenadid, who was the ruler of Majerteen Sultanate, answered this by making a phonetic script for the language. This script was the official script for Somali until it was replaced by the Latin script in 1972. "Ismaaniya" is based on the early samples of the Osmanya written script and surprisingly is very readable in small sizes. On web pages, it will perform its best in small (basically the body of the HTML) to medium font sizes. Today, there are no Osmanya fonts that replicate the samples as closely as this one.
